In the far distant mists of elementary school, I had three great loves: reading, snapping pictures, and dreaming about cars. Sure, I didn't actually have a car to call my own back then, and my camera was basically a glorified shoebox with a lens, but books? Oh, there were no speed limits on my literary highway! I'd dive into tales of submarines and steam engines, staying up way past my bedtime, probably dreaming of racing a steam-powered submarine through the watery canyons of Lake Erie.
But adulthood beckoned, and I found myself buried in work-related writing, churning out sales bulletin articles, memos, and reports like an android. It wasn't until retirement that I finally had the time to let my imagination run wild and pen down some fictional adventures. I have been at it for 18 years now! It started with scripts, trying to give Hollywood a run for its money, and eventually I shifted gears to print stories. Nine years ago, I birthed my first tale, "TO beta-VANVERDEN AND BACK," a short story so twisted that you'll question reality faster than you can say "plot twist." Clyde Phillips, a writer and a producer for the award-winning Dexter TV series, gave it the maximum five star rating. It went to number 31 on the Amazon Science Fiction Anthologies list. Then I published Failure which went to number 2 on the Amazon Best Selling U.S. Short Story list. Then Willard's Fundamental Force was published and went to number 3 on the Amazon Science Fiction Anthologies list. Recently, Confluence was published and it went to number 9 on the Amazon Psychological Fiction list.
Now, let's talk about quality. I could sit here and blow my own trumpet, but why bother when I've got a satisfied reader doing it for me? Here's what they said:
"James W. Hawk returns with another well-crafted story that challenges readers to open their minds. As always, Hawk's strong storytelling and deep character development will keep you engaged, and you quickly learn what seems to be, often isn't. Of course, it wouldn't be a James W. Hawk tale without a mind-bending twist at the end!"
And, before you dive into the rabbit hole of my imagination, let me tease you a bit with my latest releases and what's simmering in the literary cauldron.
