The
Journey |
Born in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, and raised in East Cleveland, Ohio, James W. Hawk’s path has never followed a single discipline. Of German, Irish, Scottish, and Native American (Seneca) descent—and a descendant of Degory Priest of the Mayflower—his life reflects both heritage and forward motion.
He began studying Architecture at Ohio University before completing his higher education in Mechanical Engineering at Cleveland State University. His early professional career in industrial sales and marketing with a Fortune 500 company led him to Rochester, New York; South Bend, Indiana; and New Haven, Connecticut.
Yet structure and engineering were only one window.

The
Creative Evolution |
 |
Critical Perspective |
Dr. Raymond Foery, Professor Emeritus of Film, Television, and Media Arts, described Hawk as:
“A truly imaginative filmmaker with a highly sophisticated sense of cinematic acuity… Jim’s work forces us to think as well as to look.”
Jan Harlan, executive producer for Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg, offered high praise.
F. Miguel Valenti assessed Hawk’s work as surpassing much of what is released today. |

Still

Motion |
Windows on the Universe is not a retrospective. It is an ongoing exploration—where engineering precision, artistic vision, and philosophical inquiry continue to intersect.
The film is not finished.
The script is still being written
